Freshly returned from a contest in Port Aransas, your newly-inspired hostess decides to attack the formed pile on a lovely weekend in April.

April 10-11, 1999

I have been working hard on my income tax returns and used the lovely weather as an excuse to get away from columns of numbers for a while.

In my mind, I am calling this piece "All Alone." These characters have no faces - no ears or eyes to give them a sense of their surroundings. They are separated by rocks and are incapable of interacting with each other.

At right is the result of the first day's efforts.

 Day 2

Why have I chosen such a depressing theme?

Maybe because this is the first I have carved back here since Duner's demise - nearly one year ago - and it brings back sad memories. Maybe because I have been spending a lot of time by myself lately.

And then again, maybe it has to do with these taxing times...
