COME TO JESOLO IN ITALY AND JOIN THE FIRST SAND CASTLE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION!
22-28 JUNE 1998
Description
Jesolo is a sea-side resort located near the city of Venice in the north east of Italy. It is also the second largest Italian resort of its kind and it is usually chosen as a holiday destination by over one million tourists every year: mainly Italians, Germans. Austrians, British, French, Swiss, East-Europeans etc.
The City of Jesolo is organizing for the first time a sand sculpting competition which is structured in two sections: one is open to professional sculptors and another one open to families. It will take place on the beach in front of a brand new bathing establishment called SABBIADORO (GOLD SAND).

"PROFESSIONALS" SECTION
It's open only to professional sand sculptors. To the date of 25 may 1998 we have contacted the following sculptors:
- Richard Varano USA Florida
- Lucinda 'sandy feet' Wierenga USA Texas
- Sylvia Beusekom - Netherlands
- Leonardo Ugolini - Italy
As a first time event the City intends to keep the number of participants to 4/5 in order to acquire the necessary expertise for managing bigger events in the future.
The competition will start the 22 june (monday) until the 27 june (saturday) for a total of 6 working days.
THERE WON'T BE A COMPETITON THEME.
SIZE AND USE OF PLOT SPACE WON'T MATTER IN THE JUDGING
Working hours: 9am to 12am and 3pm to 7pm
Work plots will be organized as follows:
- plot dimensions : 6m X 6m (20' X 20')
- 4 cubic metres ( 5-6 american tons) of sand will be available for each plot
- the city will provide the necessary assistance to sculptors with shovels, water, water hoses and barrels, drinks , rest room etc.
The sculptures will be judged by a jury of ordinary people (holidaymakers).
PRIZES: AS A FIRST TIME EVENT OUR BUDGET IS TIGHT AND WE WILL ONLY GIVE TROPHIES. THE CITY HOWEVER WILL PAY FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES AND ACCOMODATION TO THE SCULPTORS.
"OPEN" SECTION
It's only open to families. Same location. It will take place during the 28 june ( 1 day) from 9am to 4pm.
All the families wishing to join in will be able to enroll from the 22 june by the tourist board information office (Piazza Brescia) or, directly, by the bath establishment ticket office.
The jury will be composed by the sculptors that have joined the "professional section.
THE FIRST PRIZE WILL BE A FAMILY HOLIDAY TO EURODISNEY!
